Keep a Supply of Basic ATM Maintenance Parts on Hand
There is nothing worse when a person steps up to an ATM machine to be greeted with a temporarily out of order sign. The customer will not be able to get the money they need and the owner of the machine will not be making any money either.
The solution to this problem is to make sure that routine and regular maintenance is performed on the machine. To do that the owner of the machine should have the ATM maintenance parts on hand to accomplish this task. The tasks that should be completed for preventative maintenance of the ATM machine include:
- Replacing the receipt paper before it runs out - The amount of time that a roll of paper lasts will depend on how much the machine is used. It is always important to have plenty of paper on hand at all times to complete this task.
- Cleaning the cash dispenser – If the cash dispenser is dirty, dusty or oily it will have trouble dispensing the cash. The rollers need to be cleaned on a regular basis. Rollers are one of the ATM maintenance parts that should be kept on hand to replace rollers that cannot be clean or that have worn down.
- Cleaning the card reader – Like the cash dispenser, this can get dirty and needs to be cleaned with the proper tools. If the reader cannot be cleaned it should be replaced. It is also common for the reader to have rollers that need to be replaced on a regular basis.
- ATM screens – It may not be necessary to keep these types of ATM maintenance parts on hand, but an ATM owner should have access to them when they were needed. It is a good idea to have the part number ready for this if it needs to be ordered. For people that operate many ATM machines, keeping at least one of these on hand is a good idea. It is also a good idea to plan to replace these screens on a regular basis to keep the machines operating properly and looking good for the customers.
These are some of the basic ATM maintenance parts to have on hand. The amount that is needed will depend on several factors. The amount of machines that an owner operates, the amount the machines are used and the time between routine maintenance being performed will all factor into the decision about what to keep. No matter what, the smart ATM owner will have what they need, when they need it to keep their ATMs operating as much as possible.
